Patients & Carers

Patients and carers know best what it is like to live with a disease or to receive treatment. The EU HTA framework provides opportunities for patients, carers, clinical experts and other relevant experts to contribute to Joint Clinical Assessments (JCAs) and Joint Scientific Consultations (JSCs). Their experience helps to ensure these processes focus on real patient needs.

Why patient and carer participation is important

Patients and carers may:

  • Share their experiences, expectations and concerns about the condition and current treatments.
  • Help inform assessors about what matters most to them (e.g. quality of life or treatment burden).
  • Review reports and comment on whether they make sense from a patient perspective.
  • Participate in online meetings as part of the procedure.

Patients and carers are compensated for their time, and their identities remain confidential throughout the process.
